Re: Part Three [SPOILER-FREE]
Date: 22/01/2020 19:17 (UTC)The shot of them arriving in Melbourne, as well as the shot of them lining up in the morning after reveille, certainly present of the contrast to the neat look of the European forces. Of course they didn't have the heat to deal with. I'm also assuming that several days were compressed into that outing we saw, since my first thought was wondering where they picked up the local currency.
The news of the Medal of Honor was an amusing scene. But it reminded me that apparently they've all come a long way from spewing over peaches.
Strange that Smyrna should come up again for me. Just a few months ago I read a book that looked at what happened in Smyrna from the Turkish point of view. But I can't imagine it didn't mark everyone who was there at the time.
Not that every army doesn't leave babies in its wake, but it certainly doesn't seem like there was much caution prior to easy birth control!
Funny that I should have started out talking about Captain America, because there was the conversation about the valur of war bond tours in this same episode!
My first thought on seeing all of the man sleeping on the ground was of scorpions. But I'm guessing they just had terrible boots and socks during their march for that much damage to have occurred?
I could see why Leckie's relationship would have broken up. It definitely seems like a case of too much, too soon and was probably the best decision for both of them.
When the two men got out of the holding cell, I noticed that they seem to have a special uniform that they were wearing, with the big circle on it. It made me think of all the planning that would go into not just finding a place to hold errant American GI's but that there would be special clothes prepared and stocked for them too!
