I totally agree with your assessment that this episode is like a showcase of all Dick Winters's best peopling skills. It's especially interesting because its function largely seems to be to establish Dick in exactly the ways you're saying but it's really, truly an ensemble episode. I love that they build Dick up through those interactions with an array of external personalities instead of loading us up with tons of internal monologuing.
