I have to say, by and large everyone in this community has been incredibly welcoming and excited. As an extremely anxious person who has flinched away from many larger fandoms because they're....tumultuous, for lack of a better term, it's been a real treat to discover a close-knit one like this that is mostly made up of such kind, encouraging, interesting people.

Part of the reason I decided to open this community at all was because I had met such lovely people and I didn't want to lose that sense of camaraderie, so thank you all for being here, not just in HA but in HBOWar in general~

So glad our weird love of WWII personalities brought us all together <333

It's funny, I found this comm because of the recent wank. If it has any good qualities, wank is great for finding new people, lol. My last fandom was the Clone Wars, and I was a clone fan, which was a backwater eddy compared to the larger fandom roaring away above it, but even then there was wank. God, endless freaking wank. I would have moved to DW sooner, but the majority of TCW fandom skews young. Thank god for BoB!

DW has generally been quieter, due to the ability to at least whine under lock.

Ha! Well at least some good came out of it, given yourself and sugardaddynixon lol. Either way I'm very glad you're here! Totally feel on the whole "fandom skews young" thing, too. There are a few I would like to actively participate in but I'm a bit too old to be the like, main demographic of fandom and I always feel vaguely weird about it because I don't understand the slang. xD

I read a thing yonks ago on tunglr.hell that hypothesized that a likely contributing factor to the extreme reactionary tendencies of antis was bc the different wars millennials/older generations vs younger generations grew up with: older fans grew up with the Cold War, where if you didn't humanize your enemy, the world would die in a fire nuclear armageddon; but that later generations, who grew up post-9/11, were exposed to deep insecurity and the rise of the police state, which emphasizes strict authoritarianism and polarized thinking. Obvs a generalization, and not the sole reason for antis, but it likely plays a factor into the overall surge of aggressive conservativism in younger swathes of fandom (ie antis are Christian Fundies in a gay hat).

Anyway, I've got better ways of burning out neurons than policing my kinks or worrying about protecting The Children, lol.

I also found this comm because of the blocklist. I had read a lot of the people's fic on the list, then found out there was a community and a discord and I'm like wow thanks for the reclist!!

I'm so glad you made this comm! This and LLSS are the best things that came out of last year, IMO. I mean that fandom-wise and also just...life-wise. I'm so happy I met all of you ♥

I'm writing a scene where Gene makes an AU redux of the Market Garden jump, so this image is stuck fast in my mind:

His entire thought process during Uppottery/The Big Jump is--idek, I gotta know it! He's thinking such Serious Thoughts and I have to know them. One day I will write up some kind of thing about Gene & Dick's very clear rapport, but I don't fully grok it myself yet.

I would definitely read more about Gene and Dick's relationship. In a gen way. Should you decide to write that.

Oh yeah def in a gen way. I'm not an active winnix shipper, but only in the active emotional sense--like, I don't go into emotional fits for them like I do for other ships, but they're so obvious, their arc is so clear and devoted (potential miscommunications and flings with the redoubtable Col. Dobie aside, lol). And like... I don't like interrupting that. That's Inviolable.

But some kind of... quiet understanding between Gene and Dick is possible, like Dick doesn't have to maintain distance from Gene like he does with the other enlisted bc he won't have to potentially order Gene to his death--Gene's job description means plunging into death regardless of whether Dick orders it. And they have a similar quietness I think they'd find very restful to be around. Idk, like I said it's very much in the gelling stage, still trying to come together as an idea.

Thanks! It's not so much about Market Garden, tho, like I'm not AUing the whole campaign, it just happens to be a single scene set during MG. Gene is sharing dreams with Babe because plot reasons, and there's a lot of calling back to/reduxing canon in them :)

I've been thinking about Dick's weird little smile when Nix is talking about his wife leaving him in the Jeep. He looks so smug.
