[Discussion] The Battle of the Monday Blahs

Before I go out and start shovelling snow, I thought I'd post our weekly round of positivity! Suggested topics include but are in no way limited to:

  • Post about bits of canon you currently love/are thinking about.

  • What random related facts delight you?

  • Rec a fanwork you've recently discovered or revisited for the hundredth time.

  • Actor just that damn pretty you have to share a pic or gif? Share one!

What's making you happy in HBO War Fandom this week, folks?

Ha! Well at least some good came out of it, given yourself and [personal profile] sugardaddynixon lol. Either way I'm very glad you're here! Totally feel on the whole "fandom skews young" thing, too. There are a few I would like to actively participate in but I'm a bit too old to be the like, main demographic of fandom and I always feel vaguely weird about it because I don't understand the slang. xD

I read a thing yonks ago on tunglr.hell that hypothesized that a likely contributing factor to the extreme reactionary tendencies of antis was bc the different wars millennials/older generations vs younger generations grew up with: older fans grew up with the Cold War, where if you didn't humanize your enemy, the world would die in a fire nuclear armageddon; but that later generations, who grew up post-9/11, were exposed to deep insecurity and the rise of the police state, which emphasizes strict authoritarianism and polarized thinking. Obvs a generalization, and not the sole reason for antis, but it likely plays a factor into the overall surge of aggressive conservativism in younger swathes of fandom (ie antis are Christian Fundies in a gay hat).

Anyway, I've got better ways of burning out neurons than policing my kinks or worrying about protecting The Children, lol.
