I put this together for fandom snowflake_challenge #8: Rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create.

This is stuff posted since mid October, that I haven't already recced. Trying to not rec the same person 500 times, so check out other stuff by all these authors and artists!

Everything is canon-era or post-war. Some are AUs with magical elements. No WIP. This got fucking long, and frankly you all should just go read the tag, because there's a tonne of good fic on there. The fandom is really booming right now!

Notes: Absolutely gorgeously written and bleak character study of Harry in Aldbourne and in Bastogne. The structure is stunning.

Summary:

Joe pulled up to the curb of the train station and got out of his cab to help load luggage for the next person up. Immediately, he froze short. Standing at the curb, dressed in a suit like he was Franklin D. Roosevelt, hair smartly combed back and with a reciprocal look of surprise on his face was David Webster.

He looked—he looked good. Like he’d never spent years of his life in a hellhole fighting for his life. It was a hell of a thing and it took Joe more than a moment to recover. “Web?” he said.

David shook himself minutely. “Liebgott—Joe, what are doing here?”

“Astute as always, college boy,” Joe said, coming over and grabbing David’s bag, opening up the trunk to put it in. “I’ll give you three guesses.”

Notes:beautiful slow-paced post-war fic set five years down the road. There is a soulbonding element that I love for it's gauzy magical realism feel rather than being a plot-driving mechanism. This is the softer, wiser take on these two, and one I love.

Finding Joseph Liebgott by Impala_Chick

Summary: The year is 1947. David finds out from Liebgott's mother that he's been missing for nearly two years. Webster's working for a newspaper at the time and puts his reporting skills to work to find him.
Notes: I could read like a 50k novel of this premise. I really like the sort of denial of feelings belayed by obsessive hard work. Plus Reporter!Web is great. Lovely ending.

What's Left Unsaid by slightlytookish

Summary: Joe had more than enough time to finally take care of some pressing business, and with some privacy for a change. At least, that's what he thought, until Webster suddenly dropped down beside him and caught him with his hand down his pants.
Notes: More great denial of feelings, and both of them being jagged around each other. This is a great triptych spread across the war.

Notes:Absolutely gorgeous slow build spread from OCS across the war. The author has a lovely image-heavy style that focuses on sensation and impressions. I really enjoyed how much went unspoken, but the character voices are also excellent.

Notes:I think we've established that I can basically read endless Bastogne fic? But this one especially with Lew and Dick trying to mentally picture surviving, and the way Lew keeps drawing Dick forward.

Notes: Absolutely stunning, bittersweet fic with supernatural elements. I really love this as a study of romance in the face of impossible odds. Dick and Nix absolutely shouldn't work in this setting, and absolutely do because they both work so damn hard to make it happen. Language and pacing also gorgeous.

Notes: Okay, I was going to try not to rec like everything an author does, but this fic is ALSO really good, so here it is. I really like stories of reconciling and trying again, and this is set years after Dick and Nix trainwreck out. It's not easy, but it feels really honest, and the setting is beautiful.

Nix will initiate a kiss when his blood’s running hot and he’s close to coming in Dick’s fist and that, for whatever reason, makes him feel soft and needy like a swooning girl. They kissed once after Nix was struck down by a bullet, and once to celebrate VE-Day. They kissed in a foxhole, desperately, amidst exploding trees.
Notes: Meritless smut. Go tell the author to write more, please. Hot and highly charged missing scene from "Points." I really like how bad they are at communicating well angry, and how they make things work anyway.

Notes: This is payback for the emotional meatgrinder this author ran us through with her last fic. It's so fluffy I actually cried. A+ Would cry again. Could read absolutely endless versions of old people in love. Also outsider PoV.

Notes: Luz/Toye period fic! The setting is haunting and surreal, and I really love the physicality and focus Tec writes with. Would read a whole novel of these two post war trying to make it work.

Summary: Donald can't quite fit in after being sent to Paris. Buck Compton knocks on his hotel room door and intends to lift a bit of weight from his shoulders... with ambiguous results.
Notes: This is not quite a WIP, as it stands on its own, but is also scorchingly sad, with missed connections and trying but failing to help each other through. I really like the descriptions and strong sense of place in this. Wish author would write more. Go leave encouraging comments! On this and all the other fic.
