muccamukk: Winters on the evening before D-Day. Text: Good luck and God bless you. (BoB: Good Luck)
[personal profile] muccamukk posting in [community profile] heavyartillery
I put this together for fandom [community profile] snowflake_challenge #8: Rec at least three fanworks that you didn’t create.

This is stuff posted since mid October, that I haven't already recced. Trying to not rec the same person 500 times, so check out other stuff by all these authors and artists!

Everything is canon-era or post-war. Some are AUs with magical elements. No WIP. This got fucking long, and frankly you all should just go read the tag, because there's a tonne of good fic on there. The fandom is really booming right now!

Please read the tags and authors notes for content warnings. I didn't include them systematically here.

How can you walk around campus wearing a shark onesie? by [archiveofourown.org profile] Lysel
Fandom: Band of Brothers (David Webster)
Words: ART!
Rating: G
Summary: A little Web inspired by one of my favourite piece of modern au BoB fluff!
Notes: Rec Lysel generally, since her chibi art is always the most cute forever, and she's a total sweetheart.

alabama pines by [archiveofourown.org profile] cloudbear (archive locked)
Fandom: Band of Brothers (Heffron & Roe)
Words: 885
Rating: G
Summary: Babe isn't one to break a promise.
Notes: Post-canon ficlet with great character voices. Deals with grief and guilt.

Fairytale of Bastogne by [archiveofourown.org profile] jspringsteen
Fandom: Band of Brothers (Roe & Malarkey)
Words: 3,734
Rating: G
Summary: “We’re in a dell.” “What, like where fairies and gnomes live?”
Notes: Someone else wrote fey in Bastogne fic! I love it, and the relationship between Gene and Don is great, as are the character voices. Absolutely charming story <3 <3 <3

aldbourne, a reverie by [archiveofourown.org profile] ballantine
Fandom: Band of Brothers (Welsh & Winters)
Words: 2,392
Rating: Not Rated
Summary: Sometimes Harry dreams about the little room he shared with Dick Winters above that shop in Aldbourne.
Notes: Absolutely gorgeously written and bleak character study of Harry in Aldbourne and in Bastogne. The structure is stunning.

Liebgott/Webster

A Match Made by [archiveofourown.org profile] partypaprika
Fandom: Band of Brothers (Liebgott/Webster)
Words: 5,505
Rating: Not Rated
Summary:
Joe pulled up to the curb of the train station and got out of his cab to help load luggage for the next person up. Immediately, he froze short. Standing at the curb, dressed in a suit like he was Franklin D. Roosevelt, hair smartly combed back and with a reciprocal look of surprise on his face was David Webster.

He looked—he looked good. Like he’d never spent years of his life in a hellhole fighting for his life. It was a hell of a thing and it took Joe more than a moment to recover. “Web?” he said.

David shook himself minutely. “Liebgott—Joe, what are doing here?”

“Astute as always, college boy,” Joe said, coming over and grabbing David’s bag, opening up the trunk to put it in. “I’ll give you three guesses.”

Notes:beautiful slow-paced post-war fic set five years down the road. There is a soulbonding element that I love for it's gauzy magical realism feel rather than being a plot-driving mechanism. This is the softer, wiser take on these two, and one I love.

Finding Joseph Liebgott by [archiveofourown.org profile] Impala_Chick
Fandom: Band of Brothers (Liebgott/Webster)
Words: 1,665
Rating: G
Summary: The year is 1947. David finds out from Liebgott's mother that he's been missing for nearly two years. Webster's working for a newspaper at the time and puts his reporting skills to work to find him.
Notes: I could read like a 50k novel of this premise. I really like the sort of denial of feelings belayed by obsessive hard work. Plus Reporter!Web is great. Lovely ending.

What's Left Unsaid by [archiveofourown.org profile] slightlytookish
Fandom: Band of Brothers (Liebgott/Webster)
Words: 2,890
Rating: Mature
Summary: Joe had more than enough time to finally take care of some pressing business, and with some privacy for a change. At least, that's what he thought, until Webster suddenly dropped down beside him and caught him with his hand down his pants.
Notes: More great denial of feelings, and both of them being jagged around each other. This is a great triptych spread across the war.

Nixon/Winters

In Between the Thin Air and the Unknown by [archiveofourown.org profile] scribbledmargins (archive locked)
Fandom: Band of Brothers (Nixon/Winters)
Words: 5,036
Rating: Teen
Summary: Nix in love and war
Notes:Absolutely gorgeous slow build spread from OCS across the war. The author has a lovely image-heavy style that focuses on sensation and impressions. I really enjoyed how much went unspoken, but the character voices are also excellent.

This Time Next Year by [archiveofourown.org profile] slightlytookish
Fandom: Band of Brothers (Nixon/Winters)
Words: 1,213
Rating: G
Summary: Dick spent the last hour of 1944 walking the line.
Notes:I think we've established that I can basically read endless Bastogne fic? But this one especially with Lew and Dick trying to mentally picture surviving, and the way Lew keeps drawing Dick forward.

And Nights Are Bright Days by [archiveofourown.org profile] fiorediloto
Fandom: Band of Brothers (Nixon/Winters)
Words: 9,253
Rating: Explicit
Summary:
“War’s over, Lew,” Dick said. “We’re alive—”

“Speak for yourself.”

“We’re alive,” Dick repeated, “and you’re here.”

Notes: Absolutely stunning, bittersweet fic with supernatural elements. I really love this as a study of romance in the face of impossible odds. Dick and Nix absolutely shouldn't work in this setting, and absolutely do because they both work so damn hard to make it happen. Language and pacing also gorgeous.

Mutual by [archiveofourown.org profile] miss_grey
Fandom: Band of Brothers (Nixon/Winters)
Words: 2,105
Rating: G
Summary: Dick couldn’t help wondering to himself when exactly Nix had decided that Dick’s personal space had become their mutual space.
Notes: Really sweet look back from Toccoa to OCS at how they started living in each other's pockets. I love the structure.

A Bow on Top by [archiveofourown.org profile] Howling_Harpy
Fandom: Band of Brothers (Nixon/Winters)
Words: 6,503
Rating: Explicit
Summary: Tonight Lewis has a surprise in store for Dick, and he's sure it's going to be a pleasant one.
Notes: Bondage smut that is both scorching hot and and tender and beautiful. It's all silk and moonlight and doing your best to give your partner what they want. Just lovely.

Hidden Behind a Garden Wall by [archiveofourown.org profile] Howling_Harpy
Fandom: Band of Brothers (Nixon/Winters)
Words: 11,163
Rating: G
Summary: After not seeing each other for five years, Dick invites Lewis for a visit for midsummer. Lewis hopes to fix things between them, but when he arrives there is a woman by Dick’s side.
Notes: Okay, I was going to try not to rec like everything an author does, but this fic is ALSO really good, so here it is. I really like stories of reconciling and trying again, and this is set years after Dick and Nix trainwreck out. It's not easy, but it feels really honest, and the setting is beautiful.

Your Anger from Way Across the Sea by [archiveofourown.org profile] fiorediloto
Fandom: Band of Brothers (Nixon/Winters)
Words: 3,116
Rating: Explicit
Summary: They don’t kiss much, or barely ever. Nix will initiate a kiss when his blood’s running hot and he’s close to coming in Dick’s fist and that, for whatever reason, makes him feel soft and needy like a swooning girl. They kissed once after Nix was struck down by a bullet, and once to celebrate VE-Day. They kissed in a foxhole, desperately, amidst exploding trees.
Notes: Meritless smut. Go tell the author to write more, please. Hot and highly charged missing scene from "Points." I really like how bad they are at communicating well angry, and how they make things work anyway.

Other Pairings

And My Ring to Wear by [archiveofourown.org profile] kaasknot (archive locked)
Fandom: Band of Brothers (Heffron/Roe)
Words: 2,016
Rating: G
Summary:
“Here to apply for a marriage license?” she asked politely, as though she didn’t have a whole stack of them before her, and as if she hadn’t already prepared close to twenty since City Hall opened.

“Yes, ma’am,” the skinnier of the two said.

“Your names?” she asked.

“Eugene Roe and Edward Heffron,” he answered.

Notes: This is payback for the emotional meatgrinder this author ran us through with her last fic. It's so fluffy I actually cried. A+ Would cry again. Could read absolutely endless versions of old people in love. Also outsider PoV.

But I Linger On, Dear by [archiveofourown.org profile] ThrillingDetectiveTales
Fandom: Band of Brothers (Luz/Toye)
Words: 1,206
Rating: G
Summary: Memories of Bastogne stick around even after George is home from the frontlines. Luckily, Joe does too.
Notes: Luz/Toye period fic! The setting is haunting and surreal, and I really love the physicality and focus Tec writes with. Would read a whole novel of these two post war trying to make it work.

Tired but Good by [archiveofourown.org profile] Arwen88
Fandom: Band of Brothers (Martin/Randleman)
Words: 1,708
Rating: Explicit
Summary: After a long hard day, Johnny sneaks in Bull's bed to sleep with him.
Notes: This is just the fluffiest! It's really nice emotional h/c of finding comfort after being ground down, and I love all the snuggling. (I did beta read this one.)

After the Storm, Thunder Prevails by [archiveofourown.org profile] Wizard95
Fandom: Band of Brothers (Compton/Malarkey)
Words: 8,670
Rating: Mature
Summary: Donald can't quite fit in after being sent to Paris. Buck Compton knocks on his hotel room door and intends to lift a bit of weight from his shoulders... with ambiguous results.
Notes: This is not quite a WIP, as it stands on its own, but is also scorchingly sad, with missed connections and trying but failing to help each other through. I really like the descriptions and strong sense of place in this. Wish author would write more. Go leave encouraging comments! On this and all the other fic.

More Recs on my recs tag.

I like exclamation marks!
