Unfortunately, this month most of my WIPs have been cast aside while I work on stuff for the Rare Pair Exchange, as well as this month's fic for my little "Year" project. It's one of yours this month, Tec! The Talbert character study, which I have to say has been a lot of fun prepping and drafting.

On the WIP backburner, I still have that damn BabeRoe ghost memorial prompt. It's sitting currently at 3k and I haven't even gotten to the part where Gene dies yet, so...it looks like I'll be taking a page out of y'all's book for this one and dropping 10k or so on it. I'm not mad about it.

I'm also kicking around the idea of a Saving Private Ryan AU--Saving Private Webster. Though I have some problems with the film and it's classic Hanks/Speilberg glorify the war shit, it was on in the background the other night and I noticed that the Brooklyn private--Reiben??--had so much goddamn Liebgott energy it was unreal. And now I can't stop thinking about how much Lieb would hate-fuck the shit out of Web if he'd had to hunt for his ass during the aftermath of D-Day, losing half of his buddies along the way to save some baby-faced college boy.

Eeeee!! I'm so excited to read it!! And all the rest of these! BabeRoe ghosts! Webgott SPR AU! I have never seen Saving Private Ryan in its entirety and don't know it well enough to recall specific characters—or really any characters—but I absolutely agree that under the circumstances you've described Liebgott would hate-fuck Web so hard he forgot his own name.

I admit, I'm saving your Johnny/Bull for whenever I have a moment to come up for air from life stuff and trying to finish my own exchange fic, which is gearing up to be A Lot, lol.

I will always be stoked for any writing from you and 10K of bittersweet romantic hauntings is a gift, truly~

I'm really looking to both this month's challenge post and the ghost one, when you have time for it.

Haven't seen Saving Private Ryan, but feel there's a lot of room for AUs that people haven't explored.

I want to say that y'all should watch SPR, but honestly, it's so trope-y and formulaic. Its basically Band of Brothers stripped of all the good parts? So, maybe don't. Or do, and the we can bitch about it together.

I feel like I got enough of that with Fury. But I am thinking about rewatching Thin Red Line, despite Sean Penn being in it.

Having just googled Thin Red Line, I can't believe I've never heard of this film. I'd be interesting to watch and see how it fits into the vein of WWII films, given that it was filmed in the late 90s but based on a Vietnam-era novel.

One of my aunts had a THING for Sean Penn and force marched us through his entire filmography. I never looked back, but a Guadalcanal movie might be helpful.

Andy/Eddie outsider PoV

I'm like 3/4trs done this Eddie and Andy go to a K/3/5 reunion prompt, and I'm sort of groping through its structure. I'm also having trouble with Burgin's first name being Romus.

"Comes back out of the blue sometimes, doesn't it?" Haldane said, and Romus felt a sudden urge to tears at the understanding in his tone. Haldane always understood his boys, and knew the right thing to say. Romus almost hadn't been able to go on after the company had lost him, didn't know if he'd have been able to without Jones.

Florence, having fallen silent, squeezed Romus' arm, and Romus took another breath, and then a sip of his scotch. The room still felt close, but not as much as it had a moment ago. He remembered Haldane's words on Peleliu, after Leyden had been wounded, how you couldn't dwell on any of it. He'd spent three decades trying to follow that advice.

"Florence," Romus said, pulling himself away from the war, "This is Ack-Ack Haldane, best darn officer the Marines ever had."

"I'll drink to that," Jones said, and took a sip of his beer, the first Romus had seen him take.

Haldane laughed. "No one's called me Ack-Ack in a long time." He reached over and took Jones' beer from his hand and tipped back a long swallow, his throat bobbing. "Still call him Hillbilly though," he added, and Romus couldn't tell if he was serious or not.

Jones snorted, but didn't try to reclaim his drink. "He's taught all our friends to call me that, too," Jones grumbled, but he didn't sound especially put upon. He shifted his weight, flexing his leg so it wouldn't freeze up, and Haldane went over to stand beside him, hand on Jones' shoulder. Jones leaned sideways, resting his weight against Haldane's side.

They'd always had that easy companionship, even in combat, so close it seemed to the guys that Ack-Ack and Hillbilly could plain read each other's minds sometimes. Romus had envied it, right until he'd seen Jones' face after Haldane got hit. He was glad they'd kept touch after the war, when so many of them hadn't been able to.

This is absolutely lovely. I'm such a sucker for outsider POV and this is gearing up to be such a stellar one. I particularly love this turn of phrase:

"Florence," Romus said, pulling himself away from the war, "This is Ack-Ack Haldane, best darn officer the Marines ever had."

The way you've employed it works so well. I can't wait to see the final product!

Romus is about 40 seconds from putting 2+2 together, poor thing.

I hope it works out. It's a very melancholy thing, on the whole.

Mucca, this is really lovely. I just adore--and am constantly in awe--of your attention to detail, those little things that you pepper in that make the reader feel like they're living your story rather than reading it.

Also, Romus. Romus. That poor baby.

I had a whole crisis about "What does Romus Burgin call himself?" and thought about going with Burgie, but realistically his name IS Romus.

My father had three younger brothers: George Burgin was the second child, and the twins, Remus and Romus. That’s where I got my name, that and a four-year-old kid in our neighborhood named Valton Woods. Mother had never heard the name Valton, but she liked it. So, Romus Valton Burgin. There’s not that many of us out there, I’ll tell you.

I'm stuck on a fic for one of the Colonel's prompt, the "sharing a tent" Brad/Ray.

So, I started with them in the tent, then things get steamy. But now I'm trying to work with them outside of the tent, because with Ray still in his younger times I have my chance at him maybe still not that much experienced about sex. And I want that. But I'm not sure if it's working or not, if the two halves of the story will work together.

Does it have to be alternating scenes? You could just do the tent part. Though I'm entertained by the idea of Ray talking up sex which he hasn't really had that much.

I always wanted to write a fic where they went from friends with benefits a lot casual to something more, but somehow I never manage to take them from where Ray could have been inexperienced. So I'm kind of taking this as my chance to have them start still in training and Ray so young.

Btw I know I want them to have sex in the bathroom, but then? I kinda feel like if they went to Brad's house to have sex they will either have all the sex and never talk about it ever again - until the next time at least - or finally talk.
