[Discussion] The Battle of the Monday Blahs

I'm on the road today, and listening to Ferron on endless repeat, and frantically trying to think of an ending for my rarepair fic. So let's have a little positivity! May I suggest the following:

  • Post about bits of canon you currently love/are thinking about.

  • What random related facts delight you?

  • Rec a fanwork you've recently discovered or revisited for the hundredth time.

  • Actor just that damn pretty you have to share a pic or gif? Share one!

What's making you happy in HBO War Fandom this week, folks?

Yay edits!! At least you're there already, lol. I have an ending in mine for mind but I just need to sit down and tie it up. (And hopefully have time to swindle someone into looking it over for me, but I'll bite the bullet on typos if it comes down to it.)

I just finished the audiobook of Don Malarkey's memoir, Easy Company Soldier, and it was surprisingly lovely. I'll do up a proper review here eventually, but I wanted to take a moment to appreciate Don's memoir and just the library of memoirs surrounding the HBO War series in general.

Not all of them are expertly crafted, but it's such an unusual and strangely satisfying fandom experience to be able to look at a piece of canon and say, "I'd like to know more about that," and be able to actually go and find content that expands on some of the events and relationships you're looking into. I've got kind of a strange relationship with RPF in that I have a pretty hard mental divide between the actual guys and the caricatures of them that are portrayed in the shows (and which I now use to create additional fanworks) but it's still really fun to have a canon resource to flesh out a character who doesn't get much screen time in the series proper if you need it.

Anyway, if you're not opposed to really gratuitous fishing references, Malarkey's book is one of the better ones that came out of the series hullabaloo, imo, and worth a read. Especially if you're at all interested in Joe Toye, because let me tell you, there's so much quality Joe content in the book. SO MUCH.

I'm also editing my rarepair exchange fic and that will be my focus for this week so I can post it by the deadline.

BUT I put that aside this weekend because I finished Burgin's book on Saturday which inspired me to FINALLY start an Andy/Eddie fic. I ended up writing about 2k over both days, which is a lot for me (yay!). Then of course I got stuck on the ending but I'm feeling pretty happy about the progress I made, especially since I've been wanting to write for them since October.

Yay!!! Those are both awesome things, friend!

I'm glad your exchange fic is going well and double glad that you're diving into the Andy/Eddie pool! (I really need to steal some Andy/Eddie icons from you and Mucca so I can express the appropriate ambiance to related responses lol.)

Thank you <333 And thanks once again for talking me down a few weeks ago when I was in full panic mode lol.

I had a little luck finding some Andy/Eddie fics around LJ (so many broken links and deleted posts though ;_____;) but some sweet person made Mucca absolutely gorgeous icons for the peartree fest (which they both let me steal lol) so I wholeheartedly approve of this :D
