I could never tell if I would resent Blithe as much as I do if I didn't already have a burning Marc Warren hatred from The Musketeers. Like could anyone have saved that role?

This show is really NOT good at making us care about people before they kill them.

I mean, not that Blithe actually died.

Really noticed Joe Liebgott's excellent first aid this time around. Should have made him a medic.

I don't resent him but I always think of Marc Warren as the guy from the worst episode of Doctor Who ever.

(Carentan is my least favorite episode and MW is not the reason why, but the thought is always there!)

MW: the guy who always just happens to be in your least favourite episode.

I think it's probably tied with 09 for the bottom of the list for me. I just wish it had been about Harry.

Just a comment first about the links above -- I found that they didn't work for me to get into the thread, they seemed to go to a taglist instead.

One of the issues in watching a story based on actual events is that it's hard to tell if some elements exist because it would be better for the story or because they simply happened that way chronologically. So for example, are we getting the Blythe story now because it's a good time to fit in how people were suffering from their experiences or because certain conversations and events took place during those days?

Certainly we're getting a different philosophy of leadership and war operations in this episode from our first ones, something which seems to be running thread in the story.

I was kind of surprised that once the Sherman tanks showed up that troopers kept firing since I would have thought they would save their ammo.

One thing that is also interesting to see is the bit with the Edelweis.  To me it remained unclear if that was a moment of humanity or if it's part of the ritual of a soldier learning how to adjust to his circumstances.

The laundry was a great place to end that episode with all those packages never to be picked up.

This episode has such an odd mix of scenes that I actually can't watch, and scenes that I love. Basically everything with Johnny and Bull = A+ and most of Webster = skip. And I actually... usually enjoy Webster.

I really need a Johnny/Bull icon tho.

Also, Bill's "If there ain't no body, there ain't nobody fucking dead!" is my fandom motto. I need an icon of that too.

I didn't expect to either see James McAvoy or the return of Captain Sobel.  Maybe he appeared as the dark spot to let us know that the upbeat beginning to the episode wasn't going to last.

The drop in Holland certainly looked much calmer, though I also wonder how with so many men jumping that they didn't land on each other. Of course, I suppose they might have.

What a difference the greeting in Holland, both the celebrations and the reprisals. I noticed one always hears dogs barking but never seems to see them running around the field of battle or interfering at the wrong moment.

The comment about the tank not shooting through a building in order to keep down the destruction seems pretty silly given that the enemy is unlikely to follow the same rules. I mean, it's good to know that it is a consideration at all but surely the commander on the ground there should have considered the consequences since situations change.

Certainly quite a mess following the initial arrival. I see James McAvoy didn't last long. Bull's solo adventure was also depicted in a way that left things open to interpretation for the viewer, about violence, fear, and how those things tie into a sense of mission.
