I got bored, and was talking on one of the Discord servers about if Bohemian Rhapsody coming out had influenced the percentage of Sledgefu fic in The Pacific (originally sparked by
ktredshoes's post: The Pacific Fanfiction Stats), so I decided to run all off fic from the airing of the show to 23 October 2018 v. all of the fic from 24 October 2019 to now.
Which led to the following dataset:
To which I believe we can say that the release of Bohemian Rhapsody not only lead to an increase in the percentage of Sledgefu fic, but also led to a general doubling of fic for The Pacific.
But how much more? And then I had my spreadsheet open anyway, so here's some more numbers and some shitty graphs (thank you mathisfun.com).
The Pacific Numbers and Graphs
So one should grant that the older a fic is, the less likely it is to be on AO3, especially given the chances of someone leaving fandom and deleting, and also people not adapting to AO3 by 2010. Which I think accounts for at least some of the first part of this graph being very shallow:
This is fic posted per-year, using the date updated numbers, which seems to be what AO3 wants to filter by.

Look at it go after fall 2018! And that's calendar year, so we're not even done with 2020 yet!
Here's the breakdown for percent share on pairings:

There was some debate on discord re what the fuck happened in 2017, but no one really remembered, other than a few vague recollections of wank?

One person in 2010 posted a lot of Andy/Eddie. Which is like 12 fic, given the low numbers that year.

And that's all she wrote for pairings in this fandom. A couple other popped up from time to time, but it's kind of only a few making any waves.
That said, it does seem like people showed up for Rami/Joe, and then stuck around and started shipping other pairings. The How Company OT4 has been doing well lately, for example, and I have hopes if disqualifying Andy/Eddie from rarepair fest.
Band of Brothers Numbers and Graphs
Then, since I had all the calculations set up, I did Band of Brothers too. There were 66 fic posted prior to 2010, but those were mostly backdated stuff, and it was too fiddly to worry about years with only four stories posted, so I ditched everything from 2005 to 2009.

So. There was wank in 2017. A bunch of people left. I remember coming into the fandom in 2018, looking around and going, "Where did everyone go!?" But then new people showed up in 2019, and there was much rejoicing! Again, this is calendar year, so I think I'll probably pull even with or exceed 2019's numbers by the end of December.

If anyone wants the numbers, I'll dump them all in a text box. If you want to get them yourself, all I'm doing is filtering fic by year, taking out nothing on exclude filters.
Which led to the following dataset:
Total fic in The Pacific fandom on AO3: 1124
Merriell "Snafu" Shelton/Eugene Sledge: 61%
Andrew A. "Ack-Ack" Haldane/Edward "Hillbilly" Jones: 12%
Robert Leckie/Bill "Hoosier" Smith: 5%
Pre-Bohemian Rhapsody (1 April 2010 – 23 October 2018): 547
Merriell "Snafu" Shelton/Eugene Sledge: 45%
Andrew A. "Ack-Ack" Haldane/Edward "Hillbilly" Jones: 15%
Robert Leckie/Bill "Hoosier" Smith: 8%
Post-Bohemian Rhapsody (24 October 2018-27 September 2020): 577
Merriell "Snafu" Shelton/Eugene Sledge: 79%
Andrew A. "Ack-Ack" Haldane/Edward "Hillbilly" Jones: 9%
Robert Leckie/Bill "Hoosier" Smith: 3%
ETA: I have been informed that the period of time should be the same length, so, as an addendum:
24 October 2017-23 October 2018: 102
Merriell "Snafu" Shelton/Eugene Sledge: 48%
Andrew A. "Ack-Ack" Haldane/Edward "Hillbilly" Jones: 20%
Robert Leckie/Bill "Hoosier" Smith: 12%
24 October 2018-23 October 2019: 214
Merriell "Snafu" Shelton/Eugene Sledge: 80%
Merriell "Snafu" Shelton & Eugene Sledge: 10%
Andrew A. "Ack-Ack" Haldane/Edward "Hillbilly" Jones: 3%
To which I believe we can say that the release of Bohemian Rhapsody not only lead to an increase in the percentage of Sledgefu fic, but also led to a general doubling of fic for The Pacific.
