Hey y'all!

I'm trying to figure out which content creation events to feature in the coming months and, as promised, have done up a poll so that everyone can see their opinions taken into account. So far, suggestions include: a big bang, a reverse big bang, a rolling remix, and a towerparty. If you're not familiar with these types of events, I'll give you a quick rundown*.

  1. BIG BANG: 20K word count minimum. You get several months to write a fic, then your fic is claimed by an artist who is given a couple of months to create art for the story. Not anonymous.

  2. REVERSE BIG BANG: 10K word count minimum. An artist gets a couple of months to produce a piece of art, which is claimed by a writer who is then provided time to create a fic based on that art. Not anonymous.

  3. ROLLING REMIX: 1-5K word count range. Think of it like "fanfic telephone." One writer is provided a prompt from the mod and given 2 weeks to write a story. That story is sent to the next writer on the list, without the author attached, and author #2 reads that story and writes a story based on it. This continues until all writers who have signed up to participate have completed works, and then all works are posted anonymously with the same publish date, giving time for readers to guess the order in which all fic were written before that information and authors are revealed later.

  4. TOWERPARTY: Flash fic challenge! 500-1K words on a 48 hour turnaround. The first writer is provided a prompt from the mod and then gives a prompt to the next writer in line once they've finished. Not anonymous.

NOTE: if you can’t take the poll for whatever reason, leave your responses in the comments, which are screened so only the mod can see them. Thanks!

Okay y'all!

Based on the last poll I ran, re: the Generation Kill rewatch, the most popular schedule (by a hair) was as follows:

Sunday, April 5: Episodes 1 & 2
Sunday, April 12: Episodes 3 & 4
Sunday, April 19: Episodes 5 & 6
Sunday, April 26: Episode 7

Ordinarily, this would be great news, as it would mean we have an official schedule pinned down, but unfortunately for all of you, your darling mod forgot that Sunday, April 12 is Easter Sunday and that many of you beautiful babies will have family plans that weekend, if not the day itself. With that in mind, I've drummed up another couple of options and laid them out in a table below, alongside the winning schedule from the original poll. Take a peek and cast your vote down at the bottom of the post, please!

Option A
Keep the schedule the way it is and do an April-only rewatch.
Option B
Run the rewatch in March, instead.*
Sunday, April 5: Episodes 1 & 2
Sunday, April 12: Episodes 3 & 4
Sunday, April 19: Episodes 5 & 6
Sunday, April 26: Episode 7
Sunday, March 8: Episodes 1 & 2
Sunday, March 15: Episodes 3 & 4
Sunday, March 22: Episodes 5 & 6
Sunday, March 29: Episode 7
Option C
Start the last weekend of March and skip Easter weekend.
Option D
Start the first weekend of April and skip Easter weekend.
Sunday, March 29: Episodes 1 & 2
Sunday, April 5: Episodes 3 & 4
Sunday, April 19: Episodes 5 & 6
Sunday, April 26: Episode 7
Sunday, April 5: Episodes 1 & 2
Sunday, April 19: Episodes 3 & 4
Sunday, April 26: Episodes 5 & 6
Sunday, May 3: Episode 7

*I'm aware that this would raise a similar issue with St. Patrick's Day but a) it's on a Tuesday and b) you can definitely watch GK hungover, but you can't watch it at brunch with your grandma. Unless your grandma has a Thing for Alexander Skarsgard.

Let me know what works best for y'all:

Welcome to the final week of the inaugural Rare Pair Exchange, everyone! The AO3 collection is now open for posting, and will remain open until Saturday, 2/29 at 11:59 PM CST. If you don't think you'll be able to complete your fic by then, please let me know so that I can open your recipient's requests up to pinch hitting.*

If you've written additional gifts for other participants on top of your assignment, you can upload them to the collection the same way you would your assigned fic, no extra steps necessary. The collection will open to read on Sunday, March 1, 2020.

I can't wait to see what y'all have been working on!!!

*There will be no penalty to defaulting in this exchange, I just want to ensure that everybody receives at least one fic!

Hey guys! I'm trying to lay out the schedule for the Generation Kill rewatch, which will start at the beginning of April.

As GK has seven episodes rather than a nice neat ten, I'm waffling over how to split it up. Regardless of what day we watch, the time schedule will remain: start watching at 9 AM CST and finish up roughly two hours later. (Unless we wind up doing three episodes on the last day of the GK rewatch, in which case we'll finish up roughly three hours later.)

Let me know what day and watch order y'all would prefer!

Hey everyone! This is just a quick reminder that we in the U.S. have experienced that most heinous temporal misstep known as Daylight Savings Time and set our clocks back an hour.

This means that for those of you who aren't forced to observe Daylight Savings the Band of Brothers Rewatch will begin an hour earlier than it did the last two weekends!

As always, the Discord will open up a bit before and the comments sections will be here on the DW for your use and participation at any time, so don't worry if you pop in late.

Hope to see y'all there!

Sincerely,
Mod Tec

As some of y'all may know based on the rewatch post from this past weekend, Heavy Artillery now has a Discord server! It currently features dedicated discussion channels for Band of Brothers, The Pacific, and Generation Kill.

In even more exciting news, we've partnered up with the Loose Lips Sink Ships Prompt Meme to host a discussion channel where folks can chat meme content! There's also a super fun random prompt generation bot, for those of you who like to roll the dice for inspiration. Check it out!

Hey everyone!

One of our members raised a very good question regarding the community warning policy: does all content have to be explicitly warned for or is there an option not to use warnings?

To this, I say that so long as your work is clearly marked in the warning area with a callout announcing your choice not to use warnings, it’s totally allowed. I have updated the community rules in the profile to reflect such. Rule #2 has evolved thusly:

ORIGINAL RULE

2. MAKE SURE YOUR WORKS ARE APPROPRIATELY TAGGED. As a community that welcomes content of all stripes, please be sure to abide by standard archive warning practices when tagging works which may be upsetting to persons caught unawares.

UPDATED RULE

2. MAKE SURE YOUR WORKS ARE APPROPRIATELY TAGGED. As a community that welcomes content of all stripes, please be sure to abide by standard archive warning practices when tagging works which may be upsetting to persons caught unawares. This includes the option not to use explicit warnings, so long as you clearly note that you are choosing not to use warnings in the warning area.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about this or any other rule or aspect of the community please feel free to reach out to me at any time!
