Johnny Martin Appreciation Thread

I was just rewatching "The Last Patrol" for the fic I did, and overall loving Johnny in that, especially in the scene where Winter's reveals the plan is fake. He's just clearly so done with it all that he basically has this huge non-reaction reaction to it. Like when Winters says "is that clear?" about how they're not actually going, and everyone says "Yes, sir." he just stares straight ahead and doesn't say anything. Then when Winters says they're moving off the line the next day, and everyone's laughing and hugging, Johnny turns away and runs a hand through his hair and doesn't talk to anyone.

Anyway, hadn't noticed that before. Favourite Johnny Martin moments welcome.

Johnny's reactions are always so excellent in every part of the series. Dexter Fletcher does such a tremendous job contorting his face to express visceral emotions and one of my absolute favorites is the total death glare he pins on Webster in that episode. Just beautiful. A true work of art, and also Johnny Martin is a babe.

Right? I mean one could wish he were a little younger, as Johnny's what, 22? but he's also so perfectly cast from ever account of the man. I love that he talked his way out of the army early.

ThrillingDetectiveTales finally finished her NHL AU found document Andy/Eddie masterpiece and the end was worth the wait: Front Row at the Gongshow

starblessed has been writing some absolutely lovely fic generally, but I especially loved their Luz/Toye hurt/comfort piece set in Normandy: temporary absentmindedness

Arwen88 did the sweetest Winnix fic where they're in Paris and have lots of feelings and also sex: A Date In Paris

I started re-listening to Helmet for My Pillow again now that I'm back at work and need noise to keep me company while I do things, and god I love this book. Like, even outside of classifying it as my favorite war memoir or my favorite piece of nonfiction I might just say it's one of my favorite books, overall, period. of all time.

I really need to get around to reading literally any of the other Leckie war books I have to see if they're as good but this one is just so chefkissingfingers.gif that it's hard to move past it.
